Alston Hilliard is the unit coordinator and leader of on farm extension demonstrations at The Virginia State University College of Agriculture. As a graduate of the program Alston takes pride in black farming and making sure his kids have the same opportunities and experiences he did on the land. At Sildo Farms Alstom Hilliard, along with his beautiful wife and three kids, dabble in a little garden growing but focuses on baling and selling hay. With land from Mechanicsville to Louisa Virginia for hay production, Alston has expressed how this has been a part of his life since childhood. “I used to love to make sure my lines were perfect.” Alston stated while doing a cattle demonstration and VSU’s AG Field Day. He says he’s currently finding his way in black agriculture and is excited for what the future brings.
