Liberation Seed Farm is a young family farm tucked in the backroads of Prospect, Virginia. Farmed by Sun English Jr., The farm stretches 1.5 acres and is in relationship with Monacan/Occaneechi land. Using a traditional Haitian growing technique called Jaden Lakou, and organic methods, Liberation seed uses practices that build healing relationships with the land. Their goal is to feed their local community fresh, nourishing, and inaccessible foods. They are committed to bridging the relationship between the land, community, and culture. The farm is also very intentional about providing a safe space for BIPOC and LGBTQUIA folks to gather, rest, celebrate, worship, create, etc.
Liberation Seed cultivates a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, and seeds. They make it a priority to preserve history by saving seeds and cultivating heirloom varieties. On her website Sun tells stories of how she remembers her mother and grandmother healing her with the same herbs she uses to heal her community now. This is why Melanated Medicinals was created. Melanated Medicinals is a line of natural value-added products created to bring sovereignty and healing to her community. Providing land and food specifically for this cause, this arm of Sun’s brand offers herbalism classes, medical products and much more.
